These 7 woodcut prints form part of larger body of work entitled ‘The Egg Importer’. This work draws on the artist's own paternal family history as he visited, painted, and collected memories and ephemera from as many as his remaining Jewish relatives around Europe and in Israel. The resulting wood cut prints reveal hidden narratives.Thewoodcut images are driven by narrative, as they playfully recount the stories of his great grandfather’s (the actual Egg Importer) Polish Jewish family in 1920s Berlin and beyond. Each story unfolds inside a silhouette of a head – a reminder that these are both memories, but also at the same time, a personal part of the artist. These images were deliberately made in woodcut – a style of printmaking synonymous with early illustration and with the darker fairytales such as the Brothers Grimm, where the art of mark making is pronounced and the grain of the wood also becomes involved with its own story to tell.
Each woodcut print in The Egg Importer series is a limited edition of 10 hand printed images. The prints are sold either framed or unframed and can be sold either individually or as a set.
Framed prints cost £200 and unframed prints £150.
