My name is Shina Saeed and I have recently finished studying at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. My recent work is based on the heavy issue of Honour Killings. Honour killings are quite hidden in our society and are mostly common in the Middle East and also Asian countries. However, I have soley based my work on the honour killings of Kurdish girls, from the Kurdish region on Iraq. My previous works were based on the Arabian culture, such well-known Egyptian belly dancers and also veiled women. My paintings and drawings based on veiled women, show beauty against the veil and I allow the viewers to ask themselves whether or not they believe veiled women are oppressed or if they are free to make their own decisions in regards to veiling themselves. In my spare time I also customise clothing for people and I also design tattoo's too.
